JAZZ9TUS
European Artist Guest Programme
-
Monthly guest visits
Each month, JAZZ9TUS invites a musician from the international jazz scene to Aalborg in Northern Denmark, hosting workshops and performing with a backing band of local musicians that match the artist’s request. We try to find young professional bandleaders from diverse backgrounds that represent new trends combining European heritage and improvised music.
-
New ideas infusing the scene
All invited artists bring fresh compositions written within the last 1-5 years. This introduces new artistic ideas and expressions both to our local musician scene (who must learn and perform the music) but also to our audience. During workshops, members of the Aalborg jazz music community are also exposed to consideration around the business side of creating a professional work life in the European jazz scene.
-
Social and climate sustainability
Our method of inviting artists and creating local bands is not new - it has been an age-old practise in the jazz world. But it challenges the idea of touring bands, and it is becoming highly relevant because of what it can achieve: Touring that allows for deeper connections, diffusion of artistic ideas and for a smaller climate footprint.
JAZZ9TUS' international visitor programme is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation and Aalborg Municipality and collaborates with culture house Huset i Hasserisgade and The Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg.
The concerts are presented in collaboration with El Mundo in Aalborg.
The visitor programme is curated by Kenneth Dahl Knudsen and Lukas Bjørn.
